"We intend to lead the country in providing delicious options for those who want to eat gluten-free"
-Chris, Director of Natural Foods
If you've been eating gluten-free, you have no doubt noticed more and more gluten-free products popping up on our shelves practically every day. It's all a part of our effort to offer more choices that make life easier for anyone following a gluten-free diet.
"We have hundreds of gluten-free items available throughout the store in our Deli, Meat, Bakery, and Grocery Departments," says our associate Chris, the Director of Natural Foods, "and many are located in our natural foods section, specifically in the baking section and the frozen foods cases."
If you can imagine it, you'll most likely find it in our store. Gluten-free pizza? Check. Gluten-free bagels, cookies, and cake? Certainly. "The taste and quality of gluten-free breads and other bakery products have dramatically improved in recent years," says Chris. "You can even bake from scratch with a wide variety of alternative flours."
So why the recent explosion in the gluten-free category? In large part, the dramatic growth is due to heightened awareness of Celiac Disease, which may affect up to 1% of America's population, according to the New England Journal of Medicine. As more cases of Celiac Disease are diagnosed, the demand for gluten-free products grows.
"Our mission is to satisfy the growing demand for gluten-free foods," says Chris. Over 3 million Americans have Celiac Disease, with several million more who are gluten intolerant or simply want to eat a gluten-free diet. These numbers are growing on a daily basis. At the same time, more and more high-quality items are being introduced to satisfy the growing demand. "We intend to lead the country in providing delicious options for those who want to eat gluten-free."
So if you're living gluten-free, keep an eye out for the gluten-free shelf tags throughout the store. Chances are you'll find something new and deliciously gluten-free to try every time you shop.
