Stay Road-Ready with a DOT Physical
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
A DOT physical is a medical exam required by the Department of Transportation to ensure that commercial drivers are fit to operate a commercial vehicle. The exam assesses vision, hearing, blood pressure and overall health.
To prepare for your DOT physical examination, simply bring a valid ID, a list of any medications you’re taking and information about any existing medical conditions. If you wear glasses, contacts or hearing aids, be sure to bring them as well.
DOT stands for the Department of Transportation, which is the federal agency that oversees the safety and regulation of commercial drivers.
Insurance coverage for DOT physicals may vary depending on your plan. Please view our list of accepted insurance plans or contact your insurance provider prior to your appointment to verify coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
A DOT physical is typically valid for up to 24 months. In some cases, the medical examiner may issue a DOT certification for a shorter period if they need to monitor a specific condition, including high blood pressure.
